Edinburgh Canal Strategy – Consultation

Edinburgh City Council is consulting on the future of the Union Canal between Ratho and the City Centre.

The proposals include development ‘hubs’ at Ratho, Wester Hailes and between Harrison Park and the basin.

  • Monday 22 November – Polwarth Parish Churchonline slots 6pm
  • Wednesday 24 November – Tollcross Community Centre – 6pm
  • Saturday 20 November – Reunion Canal Boat – Edinburgh Quay from 10am – 12pm,  Harrison Park from 12.30 – 2.30pm. Feel free to take the trip down the canal with us between 12 and 12.30 or at 2.30pm

Proposals for Regeneration Harrison Park East

These are the plans proposed by LKMK for the regeneration of Harrison Park East.  They form part of the consultation being run by The Waters Ways Trust Scotland, British Waterways Scotland, Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust and Edinburgh Council.

The plans aim to upgrade the east side of the park by create new links with the canal, make further use of the bowling green area,  and to replace the current tarmacked private car park.

Option 1

Harrison-Park-Proposal-1 Maintain the existing park layoutConstruct new path between the football pitches and the bowling green hedge.New link to Watson Crescent including ramp suitable for the disabled

Relocate current park entrance on West Bryson Road to the west

Develop activity space within the bowling green area

Option 2

The plans will be available to view on board the Re-union Barge that will be berthed at Ashley Terrace on Tuesday the 4th of May 2010 at 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. and on Sunday the 9th of May 2010 at 12.30 p.m.- 3 p.m.

Plans to create 24 allotments in Harrions Park East

Harrison-Park-Proposal-AllotmentsEdinburgh Council has proposed creating up to 24 allotments in the east corner of East Harrison Park.  The proposed allotments would cover the area of the former bowling green.  This area represents about a quarter of Harrison Park East.

The draft strategy is now subject to a eight week consultation period from 26 March to 21 May. The Council is seeking your views on the contents of the strategy and the action plans which have been prepared.
