Purpose and Method of  Survey

  • Check that Friends understand local residents  views on possible future development of park
  • Assist in Grant applications
  • Publicise Friends &  recruit new members
  • Approx 1000 surveys posted out to addresses surrounding park
  • Survey posted on website & e-mailed out
  • 183 returns

What do you want in our park?
  • More tree, shrubs and plants
  • Dedicated Barbeque area
  • More seats and benches
  • Improved Children’s play parks
  • All weather basketball/ football facilities
  • Wheel chair/ pram access to canal from east park
  • Improved Security e.g. floodlighting or CCTV
  • Boules area
  • Leave the park as it is

Conclusions & Next Steps
  • Only better canal access, more trees & shrubs, more seats/benches and better security received majority support. Comments supportive of recent improvements
  • All the  items have been  progressed  and a  grant application has been  submitted
  • Concern that survey did not accurately get views of households with children  & other park users e.g. Colonies residents
  • Consideration of   directly surveying park users  & local schools/ nurseries
